  • Staging a false incident to incite unrest.

Commitment to Human Rights

The Ministry of Interior, Justice, and Peace reiterated its commitment to protecting human rights, as outlined in the Venezuelan Constitution, international treaties, and other applicable laws.

What Did Cabeza Cedeño Say About His Arrest?

Authorities also released a video showing Cabeza Cedeño’s arrest by the National Bolivarian Police (PNB).

In the video, Cabeza Cedeño explained the events leading up to his arrest. He stated:

  • He accompanied María Corina Machado to the January 9 rally.
  • They were stopped by a PNB unit near the Altamira interchange.
  • The officers identified Machado and said: “Oh, it’s the crazy woman.” They then informed her she would be escorted to her residence for her safety.

His Account of the Events

Cabeza Cedeño added that Machado decided to go to her mother’s residence, Corina Parisca. There, she made a call and requested motorcycles to pick her up. Before leaving, Machado instructed Cabeza Cedeño to stay in hiding and wait for further instructions.

During the arrest, officers found a blue handbag, a phone, and personal items that Cabeza Cedeño said belonged to Machado.

Statements from the Attorney General

Attorney General Tarek William Saab refuted Machado’s initial allegations, calling them baseless. He stated that reports of Cabeza Cedeño being shot and missing were false.

“They blatantly lied, claiming that María Corina Machado had been detained, which is not true,” Saab said. He also confirmed the discovery of Machado’s blue handbag and noted that the investigation is ongoing.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office launched the inquiry to clarify the facts and ensure transparency.
