The Colombian Army arrested two high-ranking members of the criminal group ‘Tren de Aragua’ in Bogotá. These individuals, according to reports, were behind extortions targeting businesses in the capital.
How Were the Arrests Made?

Brigadier General Rodolfo Morales Franco, commander of the XIII Brigade, explained that the detained individuals were responsible for extortions and bomb attacks in the neighborhoods of Kennedy and Bosa. These attacks caused several deaths during the second half of 2024, according to Infobae.
The Army posted on X (formerly known as Twitter): “The detainees had multiple cell phones and incendiary bombs, which, according to authorities, were to be used to intimidate business owners and force them to pay large sums of money.”
Serious Charges for the Detainees
According to Colonel William Lara, who was in charge of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police at the time, the arrested individuals face charges related to terrorism. These charges include conspiracy to commit terrorism, as well as manufacturing, trafficking, and possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosives.
The arrests were made during two major operations. Three individuals were caught in the act, while two others were arrested under judicial orders.

Colonel Lara emphasized that two of the detainees, known as alias Efraín and alias María, played a key role in the attacks.
(3) A large amount of war material, homemade weapons, communication devices, Tren de Aragua leaflets, foreign and national IDs were seized.

They were responsible for making and transporting the homemade explosives used in the attacks. According to Lara, “Efraín” had special skills in crafting homemade grenades.
