Colombian Authorities Arrest Tren de Aragua Member Linked to Venezuelan Ex-Military’s Murder

The Colombian Prosecutor’s Office reported this Thursday the capture of Luis Alfredo Carrillo Ortiz, a Venezuelan citizen linked to the dangerous criminal gang Tren de Aragua. His arrest took place in Boyacá, and he is accused of participating in the kidnapping and murder of former Venezuelan military officer Ronald Ojeda, which occurred last year in Chile.

Wanted by Interpol

Through a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Carrillo Ortiz had a red notice from Interpol, meaning he was wanted internationally.

In addition to the Ojeda case, authorities were investigating him for other criminal activities in Chile.

What crimes is he accused of?

Alias ‘Gocho’ is accused of being part of a group that, posing as authorities with a fake court order, entered a building in the Independencia district of Santiago de Chile to kidnap Ronald Ojeda and later murder him.

He is also accused of other serious crimes, such as:

  • Three illegal kidnappings
  • Migrant trafficking
  • Human trafficking
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Extortion
  • Drug dealing

Chile requests his extradition

On Wednesday, the 11th Guarantee Court of Santiago declared the extradition of Carrillo Ortiz admissible, as he had already been identified in Colombia.

According to the Chilean news outlet BioBio Chile, a hearing authorized his extradition so that Colombian authorities could proceed with his arrest, which finally took place this Thursday.

Once in Chile, the court has ordered that alias ‘Gocho’ be placed in preventive detention while legal proceedings against him unfold.

More Tren de Aragua members remain fugitives

Carrillo Ortiz is not the only criminal from the “Piratas de Aragua” gang still under judicial scrutiny. Another three members of this organization, which originated in Venezuelan prisons, remain outside the country and are wanted by Chile.

The fugitives are:

  • Carlos “Bobby” Gómez Moreno
  • Dayonis “Boti” Orozco Castillo (implicated in the murder of Carabineros Major Emanuel Sánchez in April 2024)

Authorities have scheduled an extradition hearing for these three individuals on February 12.
