Recently, Mexican authorities found a tunnel at the border of Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, that connects directly to the United States. The discovery occurred after several citizens reported that some people were entering the area’s sewer system.

According to the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the tunnel was located by a task force that included the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, and the Secretariat of Security, all in coordination with the State Investigation Agency of Chihuahua.

After receiving the reports, authorities conducted patrols in the area of Boulevard Cuatro Siglos, where they found a manhole that seemed to lead to the other side of the border, in the United States. Immediately, U.S. authorities were informed so they could take the necessary actions.

Details of the tunnel in Ciudad Juárez

The tunnel, which is 40 meters long, was specially designed for illegal activities such as drug and migrant trafficking. According to media reports, the tunnel has lighting, ventilation, and reinforcements to ensure its operation.

This tunnel appears to be linked to the group La Empresa, which is part of the Juárez Cartel. Authorities have sealed off the area to continue investigating and prevent its use.
