On February 4, the World Cancer Day is commemorated, an important date to raise awareness about the prevention of this disease and to improve the quality of life for those who suffer from it.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in 2022 there were around 19.9 million new cancer cases worldwide and 10 million people died from this disease. Moreover, it is estimated that by 2044 there will be 30 million new cases, affecting mainly countries with fewer resources.
Cancer does not distinguish age, gender, or social class. An example of this is the British royal family, which has faced several cancer cases in recent years, from King Charles III to Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.
The Message from Kate Middleton
One day before World Cancer Day, the Princess of Wales shared a special message on her official social media.
“Don’t forget to nurture all that which lies beyond the disease”, wrote Kate on the Kensington Palace account on X (formerly Twitter). Her post included a photograph of her smiling in the middle of nature.

The palace reported that the image was taken by her youngest son, Prince Louis, who is six years old. In the photo, Kate is shown with her arms extended over a log in the forest.
The Princess of Wales and Her Fight Against Cancer
At the beginning of last year, Kate announced that she was undergoing treatment for an unspecified cancer. In September, she confirmed that she had finished chemotherapy and said she was doing everything she could to stay cancer-free.
By early 2025, the princess reported that she was in remission, meaning the cancer was no longer detectable in her body. However, she acknowledged that adapting to this new stage is not easy:
“As anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer knows, it takes time to adapt to a new normal”, she said.
