Venezuela’s Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, announced that a new criminal investigation has been opened against Leopoldo López, a well-known opposition leader who was previously imprisoned in Venezuela and is now living in exile.
Accusations and Request for Capture
According to Saab, his office has officially requested Interpol to capture López. The opposition leader, who met with Edmundo González Urrutia before January 10, is accused of being involved in actions against the government.

The Legal Framework: The Simón Bolívar Law
The attorney general is relying on the Simón Bolívar Law, which was swiftly approved by the Chavista-controlled National Assembly. This law is used to target opponents of Nicolás Maduro’s regime and aims to suppress any form of political dissent.
