Opposition leader María Corina Machado accused the government of carrying out a “cruel operation” against the family of Edmundo González Urrutia following the arrest of his son-in-law Rafael Tudares in January of this year.
In an Instagram broadcast, the coordinator of Vente Venezuela stated that the regime is using González Urrutia’s family as part of an operation aimed at forcing him to choose between his family, his country, and his mandate.
“Venezuelans may not understand the magnitude of the cruel operation that this regime has attempted against our elected president. What it means to use his family for a cruel, monstrous operation, forcing him to choose between his family, his country, and his mandate,” said the opposition leader.
Machado also mentioned that González Urrutia is going through “difficult times” due to the arrest of his son-in-law, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
“We don’t know where he is being held,” reiterated the former ambassador.
Rafael Tudares Disappears
Mariana González, daughter of Edmundo González Urrutia, has repeatedly demanded to know where her husband is and has called for his release, arguing that Tudares has committed no crime.
41 days since the abduction of my husband Rafael Tudares Bracho, carried out by state officials. Rafael has committed no crime and has no political involvement. He has been subjected to the inhumane condition of enforced disappearance.

On January 7, González Urrutia reported that Tudares was “abducted” while taking his children to school. According to his account, hooded men dressed in black approached him, forced him into a gold-colored SUV, and took him away.
