The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, announced this Monday that parliamentary elections in Venezuela will take place on April 27, 2025. This announcement comes at a delicate moment for the country, following the controversial elections of July 28, which have been accused of electoral fraud.
Call to Renew Key Positions
The CNE seeks to renew the National Assembly, currently dominated by chavismo. Additionally, the elections will include the selection of governors, mayors, and council members.
Amoroso explained:
“This year marks the end of the term for parliamentarians, governors, mayors, and legislative and municipal councils. Therefore, in compliance with the law, the CNE is calling for an integral electoral process on April 27, 2025. The complete election schedule will be published in the coming hours.”
Context of the Political Crisis
The announcement comes as Venezuela faces one of its greatest political crises. It all began when Nicolás Maduro’s government refused to acknowledge the victory of opposition candidate Edmundo González during the July 28 elections. Instead, Maduro swore himself in without presenting clear details of the election results.

The opposition, led by María Corina Machado, insists there was fraud and defends González’s victory. This conflict has left many Venezuelans uncertain and has generated distrust in the institutions.
Venezuela has already decided.
The mandate of July 28 MUST BE RESPECTED.The people ARE July 28.
You’re either with the people or with Maduro. Here, NO ONE WILL STAND FOR THIS ANYMORE.

Complaints and Technical Problems at the CNE
Following the elections, the CNE’s website went offline. According to the institution, this was due to a series of hacks during the electoral process. This event has further fueled doubts about the transparency of the electoral system.
A Challenging Outlook
The call for elections aims to project a sense of normalcy in a country marked by political division and distrust in the government. Despite this, many citizens and opposition leaders continue to demand clarity and justice in electoral processes.
