In the first official medical report after the confirmation of the bilateral pneumonia that Pope Francis is suffering from, the Vatican revealed that the pontiff has been able to eat normally and has not required the use of a respirator. The Holy See also informed that the Bishop of Rome will remain under pharmacological treatment for the next few days.
“The Pope had a peaceful night in the hospital and managed to have breakfast according to the guidelines of the medical team. In the last few hours, the pharmacological protocol for Pope Francis has been modified again to address the bilateral pneumonia that has complicated his medical situation,” stated Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni.
Pope Francis Will Remain Under Medical Care for Full Recovery
On the other hand, the Holy See indicated that the highest-ranking leader of the Catholic Church will remain at the Gemelli Polyclinic in the city of Rome for as long as necessary to ensure his full recovery. In addition, the Vatican spokesperson informed that the Argentine pontiff has carried out part of his duties during his hospitalization at the medical center.
The Vatican revealed that in the last few hours, Pope Francis got out of bed on his own and took a short walk through the medical center’s facilities. However, they reiterated that the medical team asked the pontiff to rest during his treatment to prevent his lungs from inflaming and making it difficult for him to breathe.
“Pope Francis is able to breathe independently, without the aid of mechanical ventilation, despite the bilateral pneumonia he is suffering from that affects both lungs. The Holy Father occasionally sits in the chair available to him in his room on the tenth floor to read newspapers,” concluded the Vatican in its most recent report.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sends a Letter to the Vatican Regarding Pope Francis’s Health
In a document signed by Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its concern over the complex medical condition of the Argentine pontiff, wished him a speedy recovery in his medical treatment, and thanked him for his prayers for peace consolidation in the country.
“To the Holy Father, in particular, we thank him for his words, prayers, and support for peace-building efforts in Colombia. His guidance and prayers are an encouragement that strengthens and inspires our commitment to work and unite efforts for a peaceful Colombian society,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the document sent to Rome.
