Trump prevents trans athletes from competing in women’s sports: here’s how he justified it

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, signed a decree on Wednesday that prohibits transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. The decision was well received by several female athletes who attended the White House to support the measure.

“Women’s sports will be for women only”

During the signing of the decree, Trump expressed his stance firmly:

“In a few moments, I will sign a historic executive order to ban men from competing in women’s sports. It was about time.”

The president stated that this decision protects fair competition in women’s sports and prevents women from being negatively impacted in the sports field.

“With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over. We will proudly defend the tradition of female athletes and will not allow men to beat them, injure them, and cheat against our women and girls.”

Trump calls for action from the International Olympic Committee

In addition to signing the order, Trump instructed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to bring the issue before the International Olympic Committee (IOC). According to the president, it is necessary to reject what he called the “transgender madness” in sports.

“We want them to change everything related to the Olympic Games and this absolutely ridiculous issue, which we shouldn’t even be discussing.”

Restrictions for transgender athletes

As part of this measure, the United States will deny visas to transgender athletes, which could impact the organization of international competitions in the country.

A broader policy on transgender individuals

This decree adds to other actions taken by the Trump administration regarding transgender individuals. Weeks ago, the president signed another order prohibiting transgender people from serving in the U.S. military.
