According to local media reports, Lee Joo-shil passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at her home in Uijeongbu, a city located 20 km north of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.
According to the news outlet ABC, the actress was diagnosed with stomach cancer in November 2024, leading to her passing just two months later.
Her Role in ‘Squid Game’ and Other Productions
Lee Joo-shil had a significant role in the second part of ‘Squid Game’, where she portrayed the mother of Detective Hwang Joon-ho.
Additionally, the actress also appeared in the hit film ‘Train to Busan’ (2016), directed by Yeon Sang-ho, where she played the mother of Seok-Woo.

Lee began her acting career in the 1960s, working in theater before establishing herself as a supporting actress in various television series.
